About Me

I work with senior teams, boards and organisations on the quality of their thinking — in their meetings, their decisions, and their leadership.

How I came to this work

I came to this work by a long route. I trained as a solicitor specialising in environmental justice and sustainability before turning to organisational psychology and leadership development. Across decades of work in the public and private sectors, one thing has held true: the quality of people's thinking is what determines what gets done, and what gets missed.

Facilitating Windsor Leadership session on AI and Leadership

Alongside the formal training, I've been shaped by traditions that rarely appear in leadership development. Quaker practice. Buddhist teaching. My Japanese heritage. And long reading in writers like Thomas Merton, C. S. Lewis and Parker Palmer. They've taught me about attention, restraint, and the discipline of staying with a question rather than rushing to the answer. A great deal of what I bring into a room comes from there.

Where I focus

Much of my work is with organisations navigating complexity — where decisions carry weight, time is short, and the usual ways of working no longer quite hold. Senior teams, boards, NHS leadership groups, professional services firms.

I'm a member of Nancy Kline's Time to Think faculty, and the Thinking Environment underpins everything I do. Alongside it, I draw on systems thinking and organisational psychology — and on the contemplative traditions above, which often turn out to be the most practical thing in the room.

Experience

I've held senior roles across sectors — Non-Executive Director in the NHS, senior consultant with the Kings Fund, faculty member of the NHS Leadership Academy, facilitator with Windsor Leadership, and previously Ambassador for the International Integrated Reporting Council. Underneath all of it is a longstanding interest in how organisations create value, and how easily that gets lost when the thinking goes.

Fulcrum

Alongside my client work, I founded Fulcrum — a network for leaders across sectors, grounded in wisdom, compassion and courage. It exists for people who want to lead from a steadier place than the system usually allows. If that sounds like the kind of company you'd want to keep, do get in touch with me.

“Mitzi inspires me, over and over again.
When I need hope for humanity, I turn to her. She reaches into the core of both the good in society and the causes of its pain. She understands what it takes to transform a situation, a team, an organisation into the finest version of itself. She manages to blend humility with confidence, detail with scope, leadership with autonomy. Her expertise and her warmth are compelling. I trust her completely. And I am grateful for her in this world.”
